Empirical Processes Working Group, Spring Quarter 2001

Annoucement

CHANGE OF MEETING TIME for Spring Quarter: 10:30 - 12:30.

During Spring Quarter, I propose that we do three things:

• A. Work through the recent St. Flour Notes by Aad van der Vaart on Semiparametric Statistics, with emphasis on the empirical process aspects of the notes and the examples. I will start this on Thursday 3/29.
• B. Study the recent "concentration of measure" results of Talagrand, Massart, Rio, and Panchenko (see the references).
• C. Finish the quarter with talks by students and faculty members who are using empirical process methods in their own research work, including:
  (1) Thomas Lumley
  (2) Vladimir Koltchinskii: machine learning
  (3) Jon Wellner: semiparametric models for panel count data
  (4) Hao Liu: semiparametric models for panel count data, part 2
