This is a take-home exam, open notes, free access to libraries. The task is to write a suitable problem for the theory prelim. The graduate program secretaries in Stat and Biostat have old exams to look at. Your question must have a complete solution. The assignment is due by 3 pm on Monday, June 3 in my mailbox in the Statistics department.
A suitable problem should be possible to do in about half an hour. It should (preferably) use concepts that we have developed in class, but it should not be a straight application or regurgitation of one theorem: there should be some kind of twist to it. One possibility is to combine a few different results, another to produce a word problem that needs to be translated into a theoretical problem. The topics covered on the exam are on the prelim syllabus.
