Climate models generally predict more extreme weather in the future. We may see:

  • more intense hurricanes
  • more heat waves
  • more droughts
  • more flooding

  • This projects is concerned with developing mathematical tools to describe these extreme events, and with comparing climate model output to observations of weather. This is tricky, because we do not observe climate, we only see weather. Climate is the aggregate of weather over a long time period (climatologists generally use at least 30 years).
