Course announcement

Daily schedule
(Last updated 12/2/10)

Lecture notes
Updated regularly. Last updated 12/5/10.

Course grading scheme:
5% class participation
30% homework (best 6 out of 7)
30% midterm
35% final
There will be no retake of missed exams. If a midterm is missed due to a serious emergency (and the instructor has been notified in advance) the final will count for 65% of the grade. A student who does not take the final will not pass the class. Grades will be a nonlinear function of total scores. A student receving less than 50% of the possible scores most likely will get a grade under 2.0.

Exams:
Midterm Friday November 12 11:30-1:20 (Mary Gates 231) Note new date
Final Wednesday December 15 2:30-4:20 (Mary Gates 271)

Here is an old midterm (we have not worked quite as far as that class had)

The exams are closed book, but you are allowed to bring one piece of 8.5x11 paper with whatever notes you want to put on it. The only rule is that you have to be able to read it normally. No magnifying glasses or microfiche readers!

Homework
Homeworks are due in class on Mondays as noted on the daily schedule. Late homeworks will not be graded, unless prior arrangements have been made.
